Welcome!
This is the home of "Crazy Ol' Man Art" where you can see some of the we do. This is a one-man-show, and we (deliberately) are not set up to sell anything on-line.
Our primary focus is photography of all sorts, including restoration and preservation. This page will also feature some of our photographs (seen to the right). Clicking on any photograph will reveal a high quality, larger image. The photographs button will take you to the main catalogue of our posted photos.
One item - a Freebie - is a short book looking at life early in the last century. (See the note below.)
Update:
(January, 2025 Update) Still alive, still taking photos, and occasionally working on art-projects. If you would like to see a daily photo from us, just follow Lex Rutter on Facebook. I post a ‘Goodnight’ photo daily. It’s a way to end the day on something a bit more pleasing than meems, ads, and political grumbling. There have been a few changes along the way. I am officially Gleefully Retired now, but still out taking photos. Our base has now changed to Nebraska, and any interactions will take place there. With retirement, I’ve transitioned to a hobby status. It’s not really practical to set up a secure, business site, but we can do restorations and occasionally will work through others, should you like and want one of my photos.
If you see something you would like, let me know. Unfortunately, I have to put a rather obnoxious watermark on postings on here. I’m happy to let folks use my photos for what is known as ‘fair use’ (generally, personal pleasure, printing for self and family, but not for use in organization, commercial, collections, or products). All of the photos can be provided in much higher resolution, usually with proper color/contrast adjustment, and some of the older photos need spotting and artifact correction. Again, just let me know.
And now: The Freebie!
Several years ago, my mother wrote a small, biographical book about growing up in rural Pennsylvania. She traced her childhood from horse and buggy days, through the advent of electric service (from local DC on the farm, to full power-grid service). The book was self-published and intended for friends, family, students, and those interested in how things 'used to be.' A few were sold in local book stores.
After her death, my sister and I, as her heirs, eventually decided to make the story more widely available. The original book has been revived here in digital format. I set up the original files for her to send to the printer. This version is re-set, with some added photos, and an addendum.
The book, titled Not That Long Ago!, is here. We put it in PDF format, as just about every device and operating system can read it.
Not That Long Ago! Is free to download. It may be freely distributed, so long as no charge is made for it (even if you print copies). Also, no changes may be made to the book.
Thanks for visiting.
Now, enjoy.
